DUDE.
WTF.
We were supposed to fly out to Arizona this morning to visit my in-laws.
After shoveling the 34 and a half inches of snow that fell here, we hope to make it by Tuesday.
MEMO TO VIRGINIA:
I may be from New Jersey but I've lived in California for the last 15 years.
WOULD IT KILL YOU TO GO EASY WITH WINTER?

Wow. And I was cringing out 10 inches here in Ohio. Good luck! The newspaper headline for that area was snowpocalypse today.
OMG!!! That doesn't even look real.
I was wondering if you were getting snowed under. My brother lives just outside Baltimore and his pics look just like yours.
Holy Moly!
As a southerner, I'm quite jealous. I haven't seen snow like that in 14 years.
Wowa. We're coming to DC from Australia on Friday - where I live we have yet another week of 30 degree plus days (that's in the 90s fahrenheit I think?)this week and I'm not quite sure how to get my head around it...
Winter is the absolute worst when it interferes with traveling! I'm so sorry!
We only had about 24" but with similar effects. Like you, I live on a dead-end street so we were among the last to see a plow- sometime around 2am last night. Until then you wouldn't have known there was a road there. Just pristine snow as far as you could see- with a couple of rows of houses plunked down.
Today when I finally went outside to dig out, I had to shovel my CAR. Not around my car, my actual CAR itself.
NYC'er who attended school in DC fondly hoping you'll be able to dig out from the mess (and safely!) before people start trying to drive and all the stores run out of milk and bread. :-)
Here via Swistle's blog, and have g-mailed you (since it's first contact, I may be in your spam mail) with a rec question, after reading your comment here

Safe travels.
Holy cow. We have even gotten that much snow this year! Hang in there. I really hope you make it to Arizona sometime.
Until then, snuggle up with some hot cocoa and some crafts. Cozy!
Our first winter here was much like what you are experiencing now. Everyone kept saying how winter wasn't normally like that and I didn't believe them AT ALL. I totally thought they were just trying to make the new girl feel better. Anyway, I lived in DC for many years and I can't believe I'm saying this, but, its not really like this every winter. Good luck getting to Arizona.
Looks scary. I wouldn't know what to do with all that snow. Hope you can get out soon. XOXO
It's lovely here in Arizona, hope you make it out soon and have a lovely, warm time! For some reason, that picture of the birdhouse cracks me up.
I know it's a pain in the a$$...we got 28" here and the dig-out was endless...and being entombed with 2 young destructive boys was not so fun, either! But, your photos are beautiful, though!
And I have to know...is there a reason for keeping the wiper blades up? Should I be doing that, too? :)
Oh--and snow plow...what's that?!?
GEM: If you put the wiper blades up, they won't freeze to your windshield. (It's more important if you're expecting a lot of ice.)
Thanks for all the well wishes everyone! We hope to fly out early tomorrow (fingers crossed) before the DC area gets ANOTHER 10 inches of snow.
You got hammered! We got about 12 inches and now they are saying anywhere from 6-16" more before tomorrow is over. CRAZY. I'm ready for spring!
